The Torsk class Heavy Destroyer was designed to act as a both Battle
fleet scout and to intercept and destroy enemy scouts. For this reason it
was classified as a destroyer. However they saw little action in their
intended role as they entered service at a time when the Earth force changed
from a Defensive to an Offensive posture.
